In this market of carbon credits : I would like to discuss a type of carbon credits which are particularly exciting to me – the #Biochar

📘T̳h̳e̳ ̳d̳e̳f̳i̳n̳i̳t̳i̳o̳n̳ ̳:̳
Biochar is a type of charcoal that is produced by heating organic matter, such as wood or agricultural waste, in the absence of oxygen. This process, known as #pyrolysis, converts the organic matter into a stable form of carbon that can be used to improve soil health, increase crop yields, and #sequester carbon for #hundreds or even thousands of years.

🔃 T̳h̳e̳ ̳p̳r̳o̳c̳e̳s̳s̳ ̳:̳
Capture : The plants during their lives #capture the CO2 from the atmosphere via photosynthesis
Store : The biomass is created over years
Convert : The pyrolysis is the process converting the biomass to biochar in a form that stabilizes carbon against decomposition
Store : Biochar is returned to the soil or added to a product where the carbon is stored for 100+ years when it respects conditions

T̳h̳e̳ ̳c̳o̳-̳b̳e̳n̳e̳f̳i̳t̳s̳ ̳:̳
🌎 Improves agricultural productivity, by helping soils retain water and nutrients, and restoring degraded soils
🌎 Provides additional income to small farmers and creates new job opportunities
🌎 Can be used for remediation of contaminated sites
🌎 Can be used as a sorbent for water treatment
🌎 Generates renewable energy from the pyrolysis process
🌎 Avoids air pollution caused by biomass burning
🌎 Diverts organic waste from landfill

– Have full traceability EX ANTE and EX POST to be sure that 10 years later, the biochar is still in good condition
